Lepidolite is a mica-group mineral that has been scientifically documented since the late 18th century. It was identified and named in 1792 by the German mineralogist Martin Heinrich Klaproth. The name derives from the Greek word “lepís” (λεπίς), meaning “scale” or “thin layer,” directly referring to the mineral’s distinctive platy structure.
